How Much Can Gophers See?

Gophers mostly live underground so it’s not unlikely to think that they might be blind but they actually do have functioning eyes!

However, they cannot see very well as their eyes are not all that developed. This is because they mostly live in their dark underground tunnels so they do not need to see much of their surroundings.

You may occasionally see these critters poke their heads out to quickly check the nearby area for plants to eat or for any potential danger but they can’t see many details.

They are able to see light but that’s about it! Instead they “see” using their sense of touch, they have very sensitive whiskers and tails that help them feel around so that they can move along in their tunnel systems.
