Do Moles Come Out of Their Tunnels?

September 15, 2024

While it is very rare, there are a few instances in which a mole will be seen on the surface.

Most often if a mole is seen on the surface it is because they were forced out by a predator but they do sometimes come out on their own!

Moles will leave their tunnels to collect materials for their nests, to find food, and young moles will specifically come out in search of a new den.

Mole Activity and Behaviors

Moles predominantly live in their extensive underground dens and tunnels systems.

The large mounds they leave behind are from them shoveling dirt in order to create their tunnels. It is also common to see shallow runs, moles use these mostly to hunt for food.

Moles do not eat plant material but they can sometimes disturb root systems while they dig.

Like gophers, moles are native to the area so there is no way to prevent them from coming onto your property.

We can help you remove them from your property!

We have found that our trapping methods are a safe and effective way to take care of the critters that come onto your property.

Properties that do not regularly experience gopher activity tend to benefit most from our “one time” trapping service. This entails us placing traps underground within the tunnel system that the gophers create. Our expert technicians will regularly monitor and check these traps until there is no longer evidence of new activity.  You can read more about it here!

If your property regularly experiences gopher activity or you live near large open spaces then our ongoing program may be a better fit. Our ongoing service covers gophers, moles, and voles and entails using a combination of trapping and baiting to keep these critters under control. Read more about this service here!

If you are experiencing mole activity please give us a call or submit an online form so that we can assist you!
